To get more insight into Japanese university ranking is still very hard, because not many trustworthy ranking lists exists. The one that this section of The Best University website is about, focuses on a slightly dated ranking by the Kawaijuku college prep school, from 2001. This ranking is often quoted as being one of the more reliable available.
This list contains thirty Japanese Universities, because the list was created in the time that the government of Japan decided to give additional funding to the top 30 of the best universities in Japan.
